The General Medicine Ward (Ward 3) teaching programme at the University Hospital of North Durham has reached a significant milestone, celebrating its 100th teaching session since launching in May 2023.
Founded by Dr Syed Owais Zaidi and supported by Dr Mahmoud Kabak, Dr Khalid Elboraee and Registrar Dr Faizan Sandhu, the weekly Wednesday programme has become a valued and consistent part of ward life.
The sessions have continued throughout a challenging period, including industrial action and ward moves in 2025, demonstrating a strong and sustained commitment to education and professional development.
To mark the achievement, a celebration event was held at Prospect House in Durham, bringing together ward colleagues to reflect on the programme’s journey.
The event included educational updates, recognition of those involved, and the presentation of certificates to previous speakers in appreciation of their contributions.
Looking ahead, plans were shared to build on the programme’s success by expanding collaboration with other specialties and welcoming external speakers, further enhancing learning opportunities for staff.
Congratulations to everyone involved in making the Ward 3 teaching programme such a positive and lasting success.
