County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust is pleased to announce the official opening of Ward 6 at Bishop Auckland Hospital, which went live on Wednesday 19 November 2025, as part of the Trust’s winter planning arrangements.
Ward 6 provides 24 sub-acute, medically led beds for patients who require ongoing medical review and therapy input. The additional capacity will support safe, effective care during what is traditionally one of the busiest periods of the year for NHS services, helping to ease pressures across hospital sites and improve patient flow.
The opening of the ward has been supported by teams across the Trust, who have worked together to ensure safe, timely patient transfers and a smooth transition into operation.
The Trust will continue to review capacity and service needs throughout the winter period to ensure patients receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time.
