Last week, County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust (CDDFT) was delighted to welcome Daniel Elkeles, Chief Executive of NHS Providers, for a visit to our hospitals and services.

Daniel spent time with colleagues across the Trust, learning more about our innovative work in estates, public health, and long-term planning – including our approach to the NHS 10-year plan and the “three left shifts.”

He also heard about the exciting partnerships we are building with organisations such as Durham University, which are helping us to shape the future of healthcare in our region.

Celebrating the work of our charity

A special part of the visit included a meeting with our CDDFT Charity team.

Joined by Trust Chairman Professor Richard Scothon, CEO Sue Jacques, Medical Director Mr Jeremy Cundall, and Charity Support Officer Michelle Atkinson, Daniel heard about the inspiring fundraising efforts and projects that are making such a difference to patients, families, and staff.

From supporting wellbeing initiatives for #TeamCDDFT to enhancing care environments across our hospitals, the charity’s work continues to demonstrate the power of community generosity.

Showcasing exceptional maternity care

Daniel’s visit also included a highlight at University Hospital of North Durham, where he met our exceptional maternity team. He saw first-hand the passion, dedication, and expertise of our midwives, who go above and beyond every day to support women, babies, and families.

Thank you

We are incredibly grateful to all colleagues who took the time to share their achievements, and to both our maternity and charity teams for showcasing the outstanding care, commitment, and community spirit that make CDDFT so special.
