Providing care close to home
We run clinics from 11 different venues and locations across County Durham and Darlington to ensure we can provide our patients with care as close to their own home as possible. You are welcome to attend any site. We do however have a limited service at Stanhope, usually attending in September for one week only.
Clinics run across all sites on varying weekdays throughout the month from 8.40am – 3.55pm.

How do I make or change an appointment?
We have a dedicated central booking line that can be used for making, cancelling or changing appointments: 01325 342113.
We will always endeavour to make your eye screening appointments at a venue closest to your home address, however if you would prefer a different location, please let us know.

Arranging transport to your appointment
It is important you do not drive yourself to your eye screening appointment as the eye drops used will make your vision blurry for up to 4 hours. Please be aware that driving when the drops have been administered may invalidate your motor insurance.
We recommend that you use public transport or ask a family member or friend to bring you to your appointment. If this is not possible then you may qualify for the Patient Transport Service (PTS) and an ambulance could be arranged to pick you up from your home address to take you to your appointment and then once your appointment has been completed a return ambulance can be organised to take you back home.
If you require the patient transport service, firstly please contact our admin department on 01325 342 113 to make us aware you will be attending via PTS and we can then ensure your appointment time is suitable to use this service. You will then need to arrange PTS yourself, please either call: 03000 269 999 or visit: Patient Transport Service I North East Ambulance Service
Please be aware that the patient transport service is currently extremely busy and therefore be prepared for waiting times. It is recommended you are ready to be collected 2 hours before your allocated appointment time and it can take up to 2 hours for them to collect you for your return journey home. Please bring something to keep you occupied and drink/food or a snack especially if your appointment is close to lunchtime.
