About our services

We are a specialist team based at Sedgefield Community Hospital, providing assessments for patients with permanent or long term mobility needs. We assess for and provide manual wheelchairs, buggies, specialist seating, postural and pressure care equipment, as well as powered wheelchairs. During assessment we consider clinical and functional impairments as well as service criteria.We follow the North East Specialised Commissioning Group regionally agreed criteria (2018). If you are provided with a wheelchair, you will be given information on how to look after this and conditions of the loan.

About our team

Our team is made up of a service manager/team lead, therapists and therapy assistant, administration staff and rehabilitation engineers. We also work closely with specialist seating representatives.

How to access our services

We accept referral’s from qualified health/social care professional’s e.g. nurses, GP’s, therapists, social workers and accredited prescribers. Referrals are also accepted from carers and family members.

You can complete an online self-referral form or you can contact us to request a postal version.

Short term loan

If you require a wheelchair whilst you are waiting for provision or for short term loan you can hire these from Red Cross: 0300 456 1914 or contact British Healthcare Trades Association for further guidance and advice.
