Who is there to help you
Your community maternity support worker can help you in pregnancy to get ready for feeding. After baby is born they will call you regularly and visit you to help with feeding. You can also attend an infant feeding workshop in pregnancy.
Your community midwife will also speak to you about feeding in pregnancy and help you to get off to a good start. Your midwife will visit you at home after baby is born and will check to see how feeding is going and give you support if you need it.
The infant feeding team is there to help if you are having problems with feeding that don’t get better with community support. They can see you in their specialist feeding clinic.
Your Health Visitor will gradually take over care from the midwife. She can help with feeding too and if you need extra help the health visiting infant feeding team can support you for as long as you need.
Local support groups and other support
You can go to feeding support groups across County Durham and Darlington in your local area. These are run by the health visiting infant feeding teams and can offer lots of support, peer support and specialist support for as long as you continue to breastfeed.
