Coping with Hair Loss

Some chemotherapy treatments can cause hair loss or thinning. This can be upsetting. In most cases, it is temporary, and hair usually grows back after treatment ends.

Our Macmillan Information Centres can offer advice, support, and products to help you cope.

Headwear

We have a range of headwear in assorted colours and materials, including:

  • Bandanas
  • Turbans
  • Soft head caps

Our trained staff and volunteers can help you choose a style that suits you. They can also show you how to wear it.

Our headwear is available at a low cost or for a donation.

Wigs

If you think a wig would help, we can refer you to a wig specialist from The Wonderful Wig Company.

The specialist will:

  • Talk through your needs
  • Help you try on wigs
  • Help you to choose the right one

Please speak to our team for advice about costs. We may be able to give you a voucher toward the cost of a wig. You may need to pay extra for the wig you choose. The voucher can only be used when you book an in-person fitting appointment. It cannot be used online.  

Many people can take a wig home the same day. If not, it will usually arrive within 1 week.
